Got questions about your PR or Communications?

No two projects are the same - I adapt to your needs and that of your team.

Below are the most common questions I get asked, but please contact me to discuss your organisation’s PR or Communications project.

What is the process of starting to work with Cavanagh communications?

An email mail or phone call translates into a discovery meeting in person or online. You explain your needs and I can clarify availability and what can be provided and expected. If there is agreement in principle, a costed proposal is provided – and then hopefully we begin working together.

How do your PR and Communications fees work?

Fees are charged in arrears, based on the time input. An estimation of the time required is provided prior to all projects, set against agreed activities.

If in the process of delivering the work less time is used, then only that time is charged. If more time is required then that is flagged to you in advance and agreement reached. Invoices are sent with an Activity Report. The focus is always to deliver tangible outcomes and progress.

Do you offer PR and Comms retainer packages?

Generally not. From experience, an ongoing system of billable time against agreed work is more accurate and sustainable. I believe there is a ‘correct price’ whereby the client is satisfied they are getting value and the provider feels they are being paid fairly. Once that sweet spot is established, a trusting and lasting relationship can develop.

What if we are a small organisation and only have occasional communications or PR needs?

That’s absolutely fine. I work with a lot of different organisations who ebb and flow in terms of service level. If you’re going to be a busy client for a period we can plan and allocate resource for that. However, if you’re then quiet for a period, will still be here when your next project comes up.

We are a new / growing organisation, can you help get us set up properly, more professionally in our communications?

Yes, I have in the past been described as an ‘expert generalist’. I was the first communications manager in post in two large national organisations (BreastCheck and the Irish Heart Foundation) tasked with comprehensively upscaling their communications activity.

Our of Head of Communications / Communications Manager role is going to be vacant for a period – can you sit in and oversee our communications for a short term?

Yes, I have done this successfully with numerous organisations covering a maternity leave or recruitment gap, plugging in as a hands on part of the internal Senior Management Team and stepping back out once the role is staffed.

Can you fix an allocation of time for us each week / month and attend our office to integrate with our team?

Yes, I have had relationships like this with organisations where I have attended their office and in-house meetings with fixed commitment and engaged widely across the team.
